Lee Kum Kee Wins the First Business for Social Good Award by Our Hong Kong Foundation

Lee Kum Kee won the first “Business for Social Good Award” by Our Hong Kong Foundation in recognition of its contribution in creating shared values and promoting corporate sustainable development.

As a responsible food enterprise, Lee Kum Kee views quality and safety as its lifeline, adhering firmly to its quality management philosophy “from Farm to Fork”. To ensure stable and quality supplies of raw materials, Lee Kum Kee collaborates with farmers by providing resources and technical support by introducing Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) to educate them on standardisation of planting. With this initiative, farmers are able to achieve higher yield and get higher income, improving their livelihood and ensuring the quality and safety of Lee Kum Kee’s products. This business strategy which achieved win-win situation for both the Company and the community impressed the judges.

“Lee Kum Kee is committed to offering quality sauces to consumers, protecting the environment and caring for the community. Apart from the partnership with farmers in adopting GAP, we have set up different green facilities in our largest production base in Xinhui, China, including Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation System, Geothermal Heat Pump System as well as Biomass Fuel Steam Generators, in a bid to reduce greenhouse gas emission and minimise the effects on climate change. Next year marks the 130th anniversary of Lee Kum Kee, we will continue our core values of ‘Si Li Ji Ren’ (Considering Others’ Interests), benefitting the community,” said Ms. Linda Ho, Executive Vice President - Global Marketing of Lee Kum Kee Sauce Group.

Lee Kum Kee integrates the mission of “Promoting Chinese Cuisines Worldwide” with its community initiative programme – Hope as Chef. Youngsters from poverty-stricken rural areas who wish to become chefs were fully subsidised to receive professional Chinese culinary training, helping to nurture young chefs and contribute towards the development of Chinese culinary industry.

The first “Business for Social Good Outstanding Awards” was launched by the “Business for Social Good” platform of Our Hong Kong Foundation. The Award advocates creating shared values and encourages enterprises to connect business success with social progress to gain mutual benefits between profit-making businesses and the community, and achieve sustainable development at corporate levels. Four outstanding enterprises were selected by a prestigious panel of judges, which was formed by leaders from both the business sector and the social and environmental non-profit sector after company visits, panel discussion and video sharing.
